HELLO, my name is Onneke Northcote-Green and I am a designer, illustrator and maker living in Seaford, East Sussex, with my husband, two children, dog and two cats.
I am originally from the Netherlands and moved from Amsterdam to Brighton in 2003. I worked as a graphic designer in the Netherlands for national newspapers and a woman's weekly magazine, and kept working as a freelance graphic designer for the first years that I lived in the UK.
I have always been a creative person. As a child I used to spend all my time drawing and making things. I believe that creativity is something that flows through us all and I have always nurtured that side of myself. When I became a mum, I returned to my sketchbook and over the years build a little business selling personalised prints on www.notonthehighstreet.com. An incredible platform that gave me the chance to do what I really loved.
In 2017 I was looking for a studio space in Seaford, desperate to leave the house now that the kids were settled in school. I found a beautiful shop on 37 High Street and decided to take the gamble and open a gift shop with a design studio on site. It's been a dream come true. In the shop I sell my own work and the work of other local artists, designers and makers, plus a collection of gift items and plenty of cards.
At the end of my first year as a shopkeeper I invested some of my profits in an iPad Pro with apple pencil and learned to draw in Procreate. It was a game changer. I love drawing and painting digitally and have made my Dreamy Landscape prints and my recent local prints with my apple pencil.
My favourite thing about living in Seaford has always been the incredible nature we have around us. From the beach, to the cliffs, to the fields, the forest and the rivers. I love walking around all these beautiful places with my family and the dog, and have started to capture them in my own bright and colourful way.
Pop in to see the shop when you are in town, or have a browse online.
